This research lays emphasis on the bacterial safety of local herbal medicine, a task that is not emphasized by regulatory bodies such as the National Drug Authority (NDA) and Food and Agricultural Organizations (FAO).
Local herbal medicine containers do not have information like preservatives and bactericides used. Therefore herbal medicine may contain bacteria that could pose health risks to the users. For that matter, if bacterial quality is not ascertained, herbal medicine consumers might get diseases from pathogens resistant to known antibacterials.
